8 Hear Our Silence
About his experiences at Parkminster. The author has some sort of prayer group going in the Salisbury area, it was mentioned in an article he wrote in The Tablet in November 1988, described as a 'new prayer movement' but effectively a small house group. Not particularly solitary. (comment given).

9 St. Bruno: the Carthusian
Trans. from the French. It is available from Ignatius Press for US$11.95. Not found on Ignatius Press's page, although you can get it through their mail catalogue. It is also listed on the web at www.amazon.com, the massive on-line bookstore. It is a very readable biography of St. Bruno, and a good basic introduction to Carthusian spirituality, emphasizing its roots in scripture. It shows why someone would choose such an austere life: Bruno wasn't out to set up the most ascetic monastery he could; rather, he wanted to be with God as much as humanely possible, and all other things were secondary to this, and at the service of this desire. (Comments given).

14 They Speak by Silences
Originally published as Silence Cartusien in 1948 in Rome by the Benedictine Nuns of St Priscilla. Unspeakably brilliant, in ten years' and more of reading Catholic spiritual books (and non-Catholic/Buddhist) I am finding them extraordinarily profound and true. Their current publication appears to have been initiated by Parkminster, which first had them published in the UK in 1958. (comment given)
A Carthusian (1996), Darton Longman Todd:

Their current publication appears to have been initiated by Parkminster, which first had them published in the UK in 1958. (comment given)

22 The White Paradise - The Life of the Carthusians
It is a brief history of the Carthusians and a description of the Charterhouse of La Valsainte.  It contains about 10 black and white photos.  The writing style is a bit dated, but it contains one chapter, titled A Carthusian Speaks..., that is a wonderful description of Carthusian spirituality by a Carthusian.  The book is quite hard to find, but an interesting read.  (comment by Susan Law).
